The Journées Québec (JQ) is a Quebec government initiative to recruit internationally and fill positions across the province.
It is therefore important, when participating in the JQs, to check where the job you are applying for is located. Because beyond the job you will be doing, you are also choosing the city where you will live.
The Journées Québec process
Depending on the initiative, the JQs can be conducted in person or virtually and follow these 4 steps:
Candidate registration
Analysis of applications and invitations to interviews
Confirmation by the candidate of their attendance to the interviews
Job interviews
Job postings
By setting up your personal profile on the Mon compte Québec en tête platform, you will be able to regularly see new job offers open to international candidates.
Write your résumé in French, in accordance with Quebec standards.
Do not apply for every job. In Quebec, this could be interpreted as indecisiveness.
Choose positions for which you have relevant experience. Technical tests may be required.
Don’t wait until the last minute! We receive many applications.
If your application is successful, you will receive an invitation to one or more job interviews.
Important: Confirm your attendance to each interview!
Tips for a successful job interview
Have you confirmed your attendance to your job interview?
Congratulations! Now here are some tips on how to get through your job interviews successfully.
Before the interview
Improve your French (make sure you have at least an intermediate level: B2 of the DELF). If you don’t have a good command of the French language, here’s how you can improve.
Review your application: make sure you understand the job offer, highlight the strengths of your profile that match the job.
Check the time indicated on your interview confirmation (Quebec time or time in your country?)
Visit the company’s website and be prepared to answer with appropriate vocabulary (technical jargon for example).
During the interview
The interview may last 20–30 minutes. Be on time.
You will be talking to members of the company who may hire you: be polite and respectful.
Looking people in the eye (or looking at your computer camera in front of you) shows that you are confident.
If you do not understand a question, do not hesitate to ask for rephrasing.
Don’t say yes to everything. In Quebec, honesty is valued: it’s better to say so if you don’t have a particular skill.
Use arguments related to your professional experience (rather than personal reasons) to justify your desire to work in Quebec.
And don’t hesitate to ask questions about the job, the working conditions and the company. Now is the time to do it! You may also want to confirm in which city the job is offered.
Note: If your interview is online, make sure you have the best possible conditions:
Enough time
A neutral, well-lit and professional-looking space
An environment without disturbing elements (visual or sound)
A good Internet connection
After the interview
International recruitment initiatives receive a huge number of applications. Don’t give up if you are not selected: persevere!
If you are selected for the position, you will receive… Processus de communication et prise en charge
